June PAYE payment deadline falls on a weekend

The deadline for making a PAYE payment to HMRC falls on a Saturday this month, meaning employers may have to act sooner to pay on time.

A PAYE bill may include employee income tax deductions, class 1 and 1b national insurance contributions, student loan repayments, construction industry scheme deductions, and apprenticeship levy payments.

Employers can pay this either quarterly or monthly, with the deadline on the 22nd of the month after the period they're paying for.

As the deadline for June 2019 falls on a Saturday, HMRC has reminded those who make electronic payments that they will need to clear funds by Friday 21 June unless they are able to arrange a faster payment.

In its monthly bulletin to employers, the tax authority said:

"Remember, it's your responsibility to make sure your payments are made on time and if your payment is late you may be charged interest and/or a late payment penalty.

"You may need to speak to your bank or building society well in advance of making your payment to check single transaction, daily value limits and cut off times."
